| The second generation of the revolutionary Crossbow kite continues its legacy as the leading performance bow kite. The Crossbow 2 is designed for maximum performance and efficiency - two of the key elements which provide the Crossbow with its now legendary hang time and freestyle reputation. By adding on to the foundation of its Pro Span Extreme arc, the Crossbows performance has improved yet again through the use of faster flying profiles, increased durability and the addition of our new Override and Sprint systems. If hang time, performance freestyle, freeriding or surfing are your thing - the Crossbow is your kite. Learn more about the new XBOW kite on the web. POWERDRIVE 221 CONTROL SYSTEM The Powerdrive 221 Control System (with pulleys) features an integrated 2 to 1 pulley purchase system. The 2 to 1 purchase system allows the rider to power and depower their kite in approximately half of the arm travel as a conventional control system without pulleys. The new Powerdrive 221 control system features a host of refinements designed increase performance and decrease clutter. The Powerdrive 221 implements our impressive Override 2 stopper unit which provides a user definable depower on demand. Additionally the power adjusters have been integrated into the Override unit - which keeps them aligned with the depower line, reducing the chances of tangling. The bar diameter has also been reduced and a new, softer EVA grip provides a positive, more hand-friendly feel. LESS TIME RIGGING, MORE TIME RIDING. Cabrinha introduces SPRINT single point rapid inflation system on the new Crossbow kite. Inflating your kite has never been easier. Just pull the kite out of the bag, hook the pump to a single valve and inflate the entire kite to the desired pressure. If youd like to roll up the kite with only the leading edge deflated, a set of lock off clips will ensure that the struts stay inflated. View the SPRINT system on the web. A truly amazing story. Thanks to kiteblogs for putting this one up:
Monday 10 July early in the morning, Antoine Boisselier (Paraglider, Cameraman), Yannick Flugi (Alpine Guide, Photographer) and myself, meet at les Houches to begin the ascent of the Mont Blanc.

I got all excited to learn that a German fellow named Dirk Gion has gathered up a mountain board and some kitesurfing gear and taken to windskating across Austraila. I’ve always thought that the wind was an underutilized source of power. I’ve raced sailboats since high school, and I’m aware of certain iceboats exceeding 75mph and more than 10X wind speed, but I have to admit to being surprised that Dirk has managed to exceed 30mph powered only by a kite. Aparently he has been pulled over by the police a couple of times, but had no real problems with them. I’m sure this has just been out of curiosity for the most part. I mean, I would pull him over if I was a cop just to pick his brain. I can only imagine, however, that if he was doing this in the US, the oil lobby would have had their neo-conservative buddies pass some kind of law against it, and poor Dirk would be sitting in prison now. Anti-authroity mentality aside, however, you just have to admire a guy who tackles a 3000 + kilometer journey with only a skateboard and a kite, and it’s not like this is his only ambitious journey. At 19 he crossed Germany and France on horseback, and he has managed some pretty impressive rock climbing accomplishments as well. Labels: board, Kites, Speed

ABOUT The event started with the sporting clinics and crossing from Maui. In the afternoon the celebrations took place until 10pm at night with Malama Park filled with the local community and visitors alike. Once again Youth in Motion created its own mark and identity and brought smiles to the faces of many young people and their families in the Molokai Community. The festival has shown that it is very unique because not only does it focus on the positive opportunities, but the support it generated was refreshing in that the desire to do good by the youth was there. For 2005 we took on two main focal points, the first and foremost were the sporting clinics, the second was the Maui to Molokai benefit Challenge. In addition we staged a Miss Molokai Pageant that had been dormant for 23years and a talent show for youth with bands or as a soloist to demonstrate their unique abilities. The craft, food and information booths were all successful and are ready to sign up for 2006. In the sports clinics, we only had 4 individual clinics due to the dates, but each sport was filled with eager students, approximately 60 participants divided into the four sports. The sports were Golf, Basketball, Baseball and Track and Field. Herman Frazier had a chance to visit and spend time at each clinic along with watching the crossing participants at Kamalo. He really saw what this event is all about as it was tied into a one day of festivities. For next year we hope to have additional sports such as football, along with the coaches spending the night on Molokai. The Maui to Molokai Ocean Challenge was targeted to 50 participants as we really wanted to make sure our safety was covered. The safety team was exceptional and we had a perfect amount of people in ratio to the safety team. The US Auxiliary Coastguard joined in at the last minute and it was fantastic that they were part of this event. We had 25 Kite boarders, 8 from the canoes and catamaran and 17 windsurfers that included four youth plus their chaperones depart from Embassy Suites at Ka’anapali, Maui to Kamalo and some onto Kaunakakai. The winds were fairly light at the beginning but soon they increased to a steady 20 knots. It was a phenomenal sight to see little kids, kite boarders coming in at Kamalo. Overall this event was a great success as we had the chance to focus on the film aspects and to open the doors to other ideas. The vibe after the event was very positive, and we are anticipating approx 100 participants for 2006. Our line up of participants for 2004 included representatives from England, Australia, Hawaii, and the mainland USA. A new area that we introduced at the last minute was the Miss Molokai Pageant and the Battle of the Bands. Both brought out much of the community of Molokai in the region of 400 people. In comparison this would equate to approx 8000 people on Maui. Due to the last minute of this event we had four girls for Miss Molokai, Leimana and Kahaku Ritte-Camara, Kahealani Hamakua and Manono Bocoboc along with 4 groups for the Battle of the Bands/Talent show. Uncle Boy Kana’e was the MC and what a special evening it was for the four young ladies and the 6 participants in singing. Leimana Ritte Camara took the Miss Molokai title and Hana Pa’a (Keala Pereira, Aleamai Mawae-Spence and Leiana Ahloy), Itula Suafoa, Keaka Kamakana and Michal Umi showed exquisite talent with them all receiving recording time with Monkeypod records. Leimana Ritte Camara will be receiving an all expenses paid trip to the Miss Hawaii Pageant along with a $500 scholarship fund donated by Aha Ho’okumu/NHEic-Molokai The art, informational exhibition and games booths were enjoyed by many, along with the Molokai Police and Fire Department turning out in full force. The informational booths shared what they had with the youth, so overall it was a successful day for those booths involved. Youth in Motion would still like to expand this area and concentrate on getting a wider variety of informational booths, ranging from educational, scholarship and career opportunities along with current programs that exist both on Molokai and off island that would involve our Molokai Youth. Saturday July 22nd is the date for 2006. The goal for next year is to encourage more youth to participate in helping to organize and particpate. We want to encourage more youth to do the Maui to Molokai Crossing, as well as targeting those coming to Maui for vacation that will spend some time on Molokai especially for the event. We will continue to target representatives from different types of wind powered crafts. One of the goals for 2006 is to continue to have a variety of divisions represented by different crafts that are powered by the wind, from windsurfing, kite boarding, sailing, and canoes with kites. The unique part about the crossing is that it is a fundraising event for the festival and for other programs that Youth in Motion supports. We also want to really target the schools early in March so that we can get more athletes involved for the sports clinics. We will continue with the pageant and introduce Miss Teen Molokai. The Battle of the Bands was an event we created to bring out the musical talent on Molokai and it is hoped that more musically inclined youth will be encouraged to participate for 2006. Overall this was a huge success and every one involved is looking forward to coming back for 2006.Labels: Kites

North's 3 new boards (Cesar Pro 07, Sky Pro 07, Phantom 07) and footgear below: CESAR PRO 07 New School Board Size: 132cm x 40cm Weight. 2,3kgNew school, good upwind performance, easy landing for powerful tricks, excellent tailgrip and good pop, hard flex. After the long awaited arrival of The Cesar Pro Model, it’s finally here! The Cesar emerges as a new school competition board designed to push the limits of freestyle performance and accommodate Cesar’s powerful riding style. The flat rocker and straight outline deliver maximum speed, grip and upwind performance. Stiff flex and wide tips create explosive pop for fast, precise take-offs and hot bounce-free landings for the most powered tricks. The tip wingers make the Cesar easy to control even in the strongest wind conditions. The Cesar is truly a no-compromise, total-performance freestyle board aimed at powerful, aggressive riders. SKY PRO 07 New School Board Size: 136cm x 41cm Weight: 2,5kgExcellent upwind performance, good tailgrip and easy landings, performance for the heavier ones, hard flex. Introducing the Sky Pro Model for 2007. Already two years in the making, the Sky Pro raises the bar of performance, comfort and style. “I use my board in almost every condition with anything from a 5M kite all the way up to 20M! It’s an awesome board for bigger riders, light wind or any rider wanting more surface area for hard fast landings. It flies upwind and has insane pop for powered tricks. The whole secret to this board’s wide range is in the tip design. The tip allows the tail of the board to sit deep in the water giving it excellent upwind drive while at the same time reducing splash on the riderfrom the opposite tip and creating a super smooth ride. The wide stance setting lowers the riders center of gravity for hard, fast landings.” PHANTOM 07 Lightwind Board Speed Crossing Board Sizes: Lightwind Cruiser 149cm x 43cm Speed Crossing Board 138cm x 37cmIncredible Upwind performance (inverted outline), early planing even in the lightest winds, reduced toeside area for best control, hard flex. PHANTOM M The Phantom M is the benchmark for early planing, rapid acceleration and perfect upwind performance. Due to its gentle sidecut, this early planing machine is able to sail upwind at a windspeed of only 9 knots. With a width of 43 cm, the board starts planing in the slightest breeze, yet remains very controllable at higher wind speeds due to the wide stance that was shifted closer to the edge. If you live in a light wind area, the Phantom is the perfect second board in your quiver that allows you to have fun when others are beached and bored. PAHNTOM LW Here we are with a completely new board concept. Effortless planing, easy upwind, incredible speed and best control, all comes together in one new and exciting board design. You can call it the Ferrari of the Kiteboards. This might be the most efficient board shape you have ever tried to kitesuf with. The parabolic and long outline on the heel side will give you the longest possible rail in the water, perfect for going upwind. The specially designed bottom shape will increase that lift. The rounded outline on you toe side will reduce wetted surface and provide better control in conjunction with the cut outs on the tips. You have never experienced going upwind so efficient than on this board. You hardly have to use your body weight to keep the rail under control. Upwind like on Autopilot. Fast and furious but a lot of fun. MULTI ADJUSTABLE FOOTSTRAP 07 FOOTPADPLATE 07Variable strap positions and widths with just one strap Plug and screw, fast setup Easy to adjust for different sizes The new Multi Adjustable Footstrap developed by North Kiteboarding has many new features and advantages over last year’s model: This footstrap adds a whole new dimension. It not only permits adjusting size and asymmetry but also width. Once fitted to the width and shape of the foot it can be adjusted as usual in size (with or without a shoe). The newly developed base permits mounting the strap to the North Kiteboarding Footpadplate on the board without any effort – simply “plug and screw”! Fuerteventura Windsurfing and Kiteboarding World Cup Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 July, 2006 : - - Fuerteventura, 11.7.2005 - Fuerteventura will be the center of the boarder's universe for the 21th year in a row in summer 2006. Windsurfers and Kiteboarders are going to hold a series of five events from July 21th to August 5th, all of them are rated world championship events.
When Fuerteventura beckons with its crystal clear waters and guaranteed wind, the world's windsurfing and kiteboarding elite cannot resist. Which is why the list of competitors reads much like a "Who's Who" of windsurfing and kiteboarding. These riders on the wind can bank on ideal conditions on the island. As can spectators and the media. For them, Fuerteventura is also the perfect venue, since the wind blows from just the right direction to allow contests to be held very close to the beach.
Windsurfers and kiteboarders will be competing in Freestyle world championship events. Judges will award points for the craziest jumps, coolest moves and best wave rides. "In windsurfing & kiteboarding, the level of the young shooting stars became incredibly high, so watch out for this year's hottest new moves." says René Egli - organizer & funding sponsor.
Besides the brand new Windsurfing Discipline Slalom42, that is the natural progression in windsurf racing, Speed Surfing will be held. Both - windsurfers and kiters will be present on Fuerteventuras legendary Speed strip. René Egli: "The discipline 'Speed' will not only be a chase for records but also a battle between David against Goliath. The best amateurs can enter professional competition, and they will for sure try everything to have the show. "
And to ensure they can treat themselves in style, the by now legendary party tent on Sotavento beach will once again attract thousands of tourists and islanders to party the night away. Windsurfing - ISA Speedsurfing Grand Prix The ISA Speedsurfing Grand Prix is held parallel to the PWA Slalom42 World Championships. The world elite of speedsurfers will compete alongside amateurs for the best times over a 500 meter course. A WSSRC commissioner will monitor the course and ratify any world records. A prize of 25,000 € is awarded for the speed event. 21.07.-29.07.2006 Price money: 25.000€ Bonus for world record: 2.000€ Windsurfing - PWA Freestyle Grand Slam The entire freestyle world elite will perform at Sotavento. It will be really exciting to watch the wild young challengers take over the lead in the battle for the 45,000€ prize money. Freestyle was held for the first time during the 1997 World Cup in Fuerteventura. This discipline is the windsurfers' free program. Judges awards points for the craziest maneuvers, jumps and wave rides in a knock-out competition. The windsurfers will start in groups of four. The two best advance to the next round. 26.07.-31.07.2006 prize money: 45.000€ Kiteboarding - PKRA Freestyle Grand Prix The tops stars of the kitesurfing scene use wind power to make jumps up to 15 m high and 70 m long. Just as in windsurfing, the craziest moves, jumps and wave rides are judged. Groups of four kitesurfers compete in a knockout competition. The best two advance to the next round. 31.07.-05.08.2006 prize money: 32.120€
If the freestyle is finished in time we will see "hangtime". The goal of the discipline hangtime is to stay as long in the air as possible. prize money: 1.835 € bonus for world record: 920 € Kiteboarding - PKRA Speed Grand Prix In 2005, there will be a prize of 8.250€ to attract speed kiters to the legendary speed course. The current record is hold by Olaf Marting who achieved a speed of 41,79 knots. The chase for this record is open for pros and amateurs. Each day Amateurs can go through qualifications and enter the pros competition. A WSSRC commissioner will monitor the course and ratify any world records. Entertainment was not hard to find around the premesis of Rufus last weekend. We were graced by the presence of a mysterious gypsy trucker from Venezuela that was about as bizarre as they come. The photos below tell the story but....
The only story we are missing is Kurt standing at the waters edge dumbfounded with David yelling at him "You're scared like a LADY!" David repeated himself many times referring to Kurt ducking when David was swinging his kite all over the beach (thankfully empty) and Kurt, amazingly, kept his cool. Nice job, Kurt, but we think you could have taken him, in one lick and if not, we would have had your back! Labels: Kite-related, Kites

The Line Manager is a tool that allows you to cut rigging time and get you on the water quicker. Like the Turbo Launcher, the Line Manager allows you to pre-rig your lines so that you can get on the water quicker the next time you hit the beach. Here's how it works. 1) When you get off the water, clip the Line Manager onto your bar. 2) Start winding your lines as per normal. Don't disconnect your lines from the kite at this stage.

Kiteboarders meet with NSRI - iKiteboarding.com: "Kiteboarders meet with NSRI More information about how to prevent excessive search and rescue efforts after the jump: Following a recent article in a local newspaper that highlighted unnecessary sea rescues in South Africa, ikiteboarding.com organised a meeting with the NSRI. We met at the Melkbosstrand NSRI station on Friday 2 June 2006. Several kiteboarders were present along with the NSRI station crew. Various ideas from the recent thread on the forums were mentioned, including the use of flairs and a Kiteboarders Alert Network (KAN). There is no easy solution to the problem of unnecessary NSRI callouts. There is however a few things that kiteboarders can do to help eliminate unnecessary callouts. Station commander Rhine Barnes explained that every minute counts in emergency situations and it is therefore not always possible to assess the seriousness of a situation when a call comes in from the public. When a call comes in from Port Control, the local crew will respond to the call immediately and receive further updates and information on their way to the incident via dispatch.
